PA Convention 2007, Halifax, Nova Scotia
The 50th Annual Convention of the Parapsychological Association will be
held from Aug 2 - 5, 2007 in
Halifax, Nova
Scotia. The venue will be the
Holiday Inn Select Halifax Centre, which was the
location for the 1998 PA Convention held in Halifax.
Attendees should plan to arrive on Thursday, Aug 2
during the morning or day-- registration and a social
event will occur Thursday evening.
The formal program will begin on Friday morning and
end no later than 11:00 AM on Sunday. The Annual Meeting
of the Parapsychological Association will follow
immediately after the end of Convention programming at
11:00 AM but is open only to Full and Associate Members
of the Parapsychological Association, Inc.; it will end
by noon.
Many of you will remember the previous meeting held there in
1998. Halifax offers great August weather, excellent facilities, and
easy international airport access. Halifax and other locales in Nova
Scotia offer very attractive vacationing options, and
those attending the Convention may wish to take
advantage of them beforehand, afterward, or both.

flight to Halifax. You can create an "alert" to send you
an email when the price from your home airport to
Halifax drops below a threshold you set.

PASSPORTS (UPDATED 13 July
2007)
US Citizens: Remember that a
valid US passport will be necessary to enter Canada and
to re-enter the US!
(Check your passport to make
sure it is not expired). Here is a
link to check how long to renew your passport.
Currently, the delay is at least 10 weeks!

Basically, it says that US citizens will be let back
into the US from Canada without a passport, if you can
show you have applied for one and have another
GOVERNMENT-ISSUED photo ID.
You need to check with your airline to see if you will
be allowed into Canada. Air Canada has the same rule as
the above US government announcement:

NOVA SCOTIA
Nova Scotia has many exciting vacation opportunities,
including at some hours drive, in the north, the
spectacularly scenic Cabot Trail in the Cape Breton
Highlands National Park, where there are 27 hiking
trails of various lengths and where one may see moose
and eagles. The
official tourism website of Nova Scotia has a wide
variety of useful information including maps, and where
one can elect as languages English (default), French,
and German. Nova Scotia is a place with many exciting
attractions beyond our Convention.

HOTEL INFORMATION AND BOOKING

A "standard room" may be booked at $129.00 (Canadian dollars) plus tax, per
room, per night, whether that room is occupied by one or two persons [Note
that with tax, this should come out to approximately $147 Canadian per day. For
each additional person, beyond two, occupying the standard room, there will
be an additional $10 charge, and no more than 4
persons may occupy such a room. Rooms come with either two double beds or
one king. If you prefer a king bed, you should call the hotel to confirm
that possibility, for the number of king-bed rooms is quite limited. [click

later, we can get the conference room rate for two days before
and/or after the convention. If you wish to book extra days,
you will need to
book a separate reservation on the Web site or contact the hotel

TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOLIDAY INN SELECT
You can take the "Airporter" shuttle for either $16 one way or $28 round
trip. You can pick up the shuttle near the baggage at the airport and
reservations are not required. The travel time from the airport to hotel is
roughly 45 minutes. |
