The biologist J.B. Rhine establishes the first scientific laboratory dedicated to psi research at Duke University [Durham, North Carolina]
1952 The CIA launches a research program to study extrasensory perception (ESP)
1964 Experimental methods for studying telepathy that occurs during dreams is pioneered at the Maimonides Medical Center in New York
1969 Physicist Helmut Schmidt explores the remote influence of both human and animal consciousness on physical systems using radioactive decay
1973 U.S. astronaut Edgar Mitchell conducts an experiment in telepathy between the Earth and Moon (Apollo 14)
1974 SRI International begins an applied-psi research program financed by the U.S. Department of Defense
1979 The Princeton Engineering Anomalies Laboratory (PEAR) is established at Princeton University to investigate anomalous human-machine interactions
1989 The prestigious journal Foundations of Physics publishes an analysis of over 800 experiments investigating effects of human intention on microscopic physical systems ("micro-psychokinesis")
